CAROL MARY-ANN POTASNYK

July 21, 1953 - October 24, 2025

Carol died peacefully at home Friday, October 24th. She leaves to mourn, her sister Patricia in Winnipeg, former in-laws, Helen Fontaine and family, her goddaughter Melanie, her goddaughter's sister Angela, their parents, Bruce and Wendy LaCroix, and many wonderful longtime friends. Carol is pre-eceased by her parents, Tony and Millie Potasnyk and brother, Billy. Carol maintained many enduring friendships throughout her life.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Carol was active on the high school track team as well as cheerleading. When she went to the University of Manitoba her sister Trish, decided to attend as well. Carol graduated as a Dietitian, and Trish as a Nurse.

In 1975, Carol interned at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton and later secured her first job at the Medicine Hat Hospital. She moved to Kamloops in 1979 and worked at Royal Inland Hospital where life-long friendships were made. In 1984 Carol moved to Nelson to assume the position of Director of the Dietary at KLDH. She later switched to part-time work at the Castlegar Hospital.

Carol was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and loved introducing people to traditional foods and hosting meals for all to enjoy. She loved to travel. Sometimes on adventures by herself, but also many shared trips to the far corners of the world and across Canada. Carol was an active member of the Kootenay Mountaineering Club where she led and participated in many ski, cycle, snowshoe and kayak trips. Her enthusiasm was infectious! She always had a smile and cheery greeting despite her increasing medical challenges which eventually limited her travels and outdoor activities.

A Celebration of Life will be held in early summer when weather permits.

Donations to Muscular Dystrophy Canada or the Osprey Community Foundation Community Fund would be appreciated.
