It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Catherine Jane Adams. Catherine died November 16, 2025 at the age of 70.
She is survived by two of her three sisters, June Elaine Adams and Rachel Caroline Adams; her two brothers-in-law, Hussein Ellessy and Alexander Byers; her adoring nephew Alexander Adams Ellessy; and Rachel’s mother Sheri Dawson Adams.
She is preceded in death by her mother Catherine LaVerne Adams, her father Bobby Ell Adams, and her sister Barbara Anne Adams.
She died peacefully at Beacon Hill Lodge in Winnipeg, with caring nurses at her side. Her family is so grateful for their dedication.
Catherine was born in Oklahoma, but grew up in Costa Rica, Chile, and Colombia, speaking English, Spanish, and German fluently. She graduated high school from Colegio Bolivar in Cali, Colombia, received a Bachelor degree from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas, and two Master degrees, one in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, Texas, the other in Library Science from McGill University in Montreal.
Catherine originally moved to Canada in the 1980s to work with the Mennonite Central Committee on human rights projects. She loved living in both Winnipeg and in Montreal, and when she eventually moved to Beacon Hill Lodge she was delighted to have a magnificent view of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights from her window.
After retiring, she returned to Winnipeg and insisted on remaining in her beloved Canada for the rest of her life. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered.
