Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTherese Mary Choptain
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Therese “Terry” Choptain. Therese was born on July 17, 1931, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, at the age of 94.
Therese was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Albert Carrière and Lillian Julja Carrière (Burka); her brothers, Emile and Marcel Carrière; her daughter, Janet Smith; and her husband, Joseph Choptain. Therese and Joseph were married on September 5, 1949, and together raised four children: Janet Smith (deceased), Jo-Ann Gardner, Annette Choptain, and Brian Choptain. She was a loving grandmother to Jamie Loepp, Lindsay Miller, and Amber Mann, and a proud great-grandmother to Hunter, Harley, and Bentley Martin.
In 1976, Therese and Joseph moved to Lac du Bonnet with Annette and Brian, settling in Poplar Bay. They cherished their home there, tending to their garden, feeding birds, and always having a beloved pet nearby. Their home became a warm gathering place for family and friends, filled with laughter, conversation, and Therese’s home-cooked meals and holiday feasts. Therese worked as a cook at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre then continued doing what she loved, cooking at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home. In 1986, Therese, Annette and Brian moved into town. Terry enjoyed time with the Agassiz Garden Club, further nurturing her love of plants, home, and community. Her house, pets, and family were the center of her world, and she was always there to offer love, support, and comfort.
As per her wishes, no Celebration of Life will be held. Arrangements are entrusted to Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
