Florette passed away peacefully at Lions Personal Care Home on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at the age of 102 years.
She is lovingly remembered by her children David (Jean), Jerrold (Catherine), Joan (Richard) and daughter-in-law Marla. She was predeceased by another son Kenneth in 2014 and her husband Arthur in 2022. She leaves behind one sister (Dianne), 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Florette was born in Fisher Branch, Manitoba. She was the third of fourteen children born to Napolean and Marie Giasson. She moved to Winnipeg to finish her schooling and became a teacher, returning to Fisher Branch where she taught in a one room schoolhouse.
In 1951 she married Arthur Jonasson and they lived in the west end of Winnipeg all of their lives. In 1954 Florette left teaching to become a full-time mother, although she later taught and substituted in the Winnipeg School division for 8 years. She joined the Church of God and was an active member for more than 45 years, studying her bible daily, attending services weekly and going to feasts at various locations in North America every year.
In addition to her church, her focus was her family. For many years "Saturday Hamburgers" was an open door for her children and any friends they happened to be with. She frequently traveled to Denver and Calgary to spend time with her family outside Winnipeg. She remembered every birthday and anniversary.
We thank the staff at Lions Personal Care Home who took great care of her for her last 10 years.
Mom had a full life and was prepared to meet her God. As we mourn her passing, we celebrate all of the good times we shared with her.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Florette at a later date.
