KATHERINE (KAT) RITA DEGNER

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Katherine “Kat” Rita Degner, who passed away unexpectedly in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 15, 2025, at the age of 46.

From the moment she entered the world, Kat carried a presence that was magnetic. Ever since she was a little girl, she excelled in everything she tried. She became a star on the soccer field during childhood - fearless, determined, and full of passion. She later brought that same energy as a dedicated coach on her daughter’s team, where she guided the girls for many seasons with encouragement, patience, and pride.

Kat’s creativity showed up in all forms. With an eye for design and hands that could turn imagination into reality, she poured her artistic spirit into crafting of every kind. She created breathtaking cakes that became centrepieces of celebration, each made with love and precision. Her creative vision led her to build a successful floral design company, bringing beauty and grace to the homes of many - an extension of the comfort she created just by being herself.

Some of her favourite memories came from her Y2K days, dancing the night away with her day-one girls - free-spirited and unapologetically herself, held by the friendships that felt like home.

She cherished her time at the lake, fishing with her familiar determination and pride, and without fail, reeling in Master Anglers.

She found great joy in the sport of darts, proudly representing Manitoba while competing in tournaments across the country. Her competitive spirit and gift for bringing people together made her a beloved presence wherever she went.

Kat is survived by her two children, Abbrielle Degner (25) and Cayden Degner-Chartrand (16), who were the greatest joys of her life. Her memory is further carried tenderly by her mother, Rita Degner; her father, Albert Degner; and her siblings, Adeline Degner and Daniel Degner - each keeping a piece of the love she gave so freely.

She also leaves behind her dog Sampson, her faithful companion and comfort until the end, as well as her two cherished “grandpuppies,” Peach and Prince - who will miss the extra love (and extra treats) only Grandma could give.

Seasons came and went, but Kat’s heart remained the same - irreplaceable, giving, and full of a strength that radiated to every heart within her reach.

A private funeral will be held in the coming weeks, giving her family time and space to grieve and honour her memory.

May her beautiful spirit find its rest and eternal peace
