Eleanor Mary Sparling (nee Cassels), passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at her residence in the Father Lacombe Care Centre in Calgary, AB, at the age of 99 years.
Eleanor was born on April 7, 1926, in Winnipeg, MB, and most of her early life was spent in Warren, MB. At the age of 19 she moved to Flin Flon to teach school and spent 61 years there before moving to Calgary in 2006 to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, James Cullen Cassels and Eleanor Hannah Cassels (nee Munro) and her three brothers, Jim, Don and Ron; and by her husband of 49 years, Edwin Bradley (Ted) Sparling.
She is survived by her three children, Janet Sparling and husband Wayne Parfitt (Calgary), Jim Sparling (Vernon, BC), Chris Sparling and wife Susan (Calgary), along with six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Her funeral was held at the McInnis & Holloway Fish Creek Chapel in Calgary, on Saturday, November 22. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Father Lacombe Care Foundation. https://flccfoundation.ca/donations/
