BERNICE VIOLET TAYLOR

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Bernice Violet Taylor, on November 23, 2025, at the age of 90 at the Riverview Health Centre. "Not a day will go by that we won't miss and love you".

Bernice was born to Stella and Stanley Werbecki, July 19, 1935, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She spent her youth and teenage years at their residence on St. Mary's Road. She received a diploma from Success Commercial College in 1953 after finishing grade 11 and used these skills for 22 years at Manitoba Hydro. She also completed a course with Toastmasters International, helping her give entertaining speeches at celebrations of weddings, birthdays, and retirements.

Bernice loved playing piano and received her grade 8 piano certificate from the University of Manitoba in 1951. Her favorite piano piece was Beethoven's Fur Elise and she would do a beautiful rendition anytime she sat down to play.

Bernice married George Durling in 1956 and had three children, Holly, Diana and Darrell.

She remarried in 1981 and welcomed Fred Taylor and his three children, Jim (Cathy), Howard (Janice) and Lynn (Ron) into her family.

Bernice was involved in the Kinettes for many years, and later with the Meadowood United Church.

She liked to stay active which included dancing (jive, square, line dancing), exercise classes (aerobics, Zumba, stretching) , plus bowling, golfing and curling.

Bernice loved all children, especially her grandchildren. Children were also drawn to her due to her sunny disposition and kindness. She could colour with the best of them, play cards, making sure they won and go on lots of walks to interesting places discovering wonderous objects along the way.

Bernice is survived by her brother Ken (Ruth) Werbecki, her three children, Holly (Ron) Elliott, Diana (Fenton Wilson) Durling, Darrell (Lynda Peto) Durling and her eight grandchildren Megan (Scott) Fraser, Patrick (Darlene) Ford, David (Ashley) Elliott, Quaylan (Kirsten) Wilson, Dayton Wilson, Aurilla (Connor) Wilson, Laura (Geoff) Durling and Scott (Jessy) Durling, her stepchildren plus her many step grandchildren (Colleen, Christopher, Allison, Brent, Cameron, Stacy, Devon, Ashleigh, Riley) and great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by husbands, George Durling and Fred Taylor; father and mother, Stanley and Stella Werbecki; grandson Daniel Elliott, great-grandson Jake Durling and stepson Jim Taylor.

A ceremony to celebrate her life will be held at the Meadowood United Church, Monday, December 1, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. with a lunch to follow. Please join the family to remember Bernice and cherish the wonderful memories she created. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meadowood United Church.
