It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Sister, Penny Burtnyk on November 21, 2025, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
Penny was predeceased by her loving husband, Todd, mother Anne and father Steve Burtnyk, as well as many other cherished family members.
Penny will be sadly missed by her son Corey (Kelly), granddaughter Annie, sister Esther, twin sister Peggy (Gordon), as well as by numerous aunts, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends.
On September 2, 2000, Penny was united in marriage to Todd Rickner, who was the love of her life. Their time spent together was the greatest and most cherished time in her life.
While in Winnipeg, Penny was employed at Grey Goose Bus Lines and Medis. When Penny and Todd moved to Gimli, she had worked at the Oldie Cafe and at Mad Dash Catering with owners Mandy and Dave.
Penny was very proud of her son Corey and was thrilled beyond belief when Kelly became a part of Corey's life, and especially thrilled when her granddaughter Annie was born. There was no doubt that Penny's heart was full of love. She was truly blessed.
Penny was a lover of animals; their never-ending love and companionship brought her great joy. She was predeceased by Snoopy, her daschund, and most recently her faithful feline companion, Jenny, who was her comfort until the end.
Penny's memory will always live on through the love she shared. Heaven has gained another angel.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses, and all the various health care professionals from the Gimli Health Centre and Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate and professional care.
The family extends profound gratitude to her many dear friends, especially Mandy and Dave. She was truly blessed to have you all in her life.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
