EDITH ANNIE BIRD

(MCLAREN)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom Edith on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the age of 92.

Edith was predeceased by Robert (Bob) her husband of 64 years, her son Mark, her parents, Thomas and Edith, her brothers, Joe (Alma), Tom (Norma), Bill (Olive), and Robert (Mamie), her sister Isobel (Don). She is survived by her children, Lynn (Gary), Laura (Ken), Christine (Peter), Andrea (Alex) and daughter-in-law Lisa, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Edith was born the youngest of six children, and grew up in the West End of Winnipeg, attending Principal Sparling and Daniel McIntyre schools. She married Bob in July of 1953 and worked as head teller at the Royal Bank until the babies started to arrive and she became a stay at home mom. Mom and Dad lived in Winnipeg until 1969, when they bought property in the Lilyfield area of Rosser and Dad built a house big enough for the growing family.

Mom was an accomplished pianist, and used her talents and love of music often. She sang in the Sparling Church choir for over 25 years, and in later years often played piano for Rosser Church. She took part in numerous musicals, and surprised us many times around the campfire with her repertoire of silly songs!

Mom was also a math whiz, and could tally large sums in her head very quickly. She seemed to quite enjoy the challenge of doing taxes manually, and was once offered a job by an accounting firm based solely on her ability to navigate complicated tax forms for the farm. She also took her turn at both Sparling and Rosser Churches as the Finance chair.

While the kids were growing up she still had time to participate in numerous activities. She was a Sunday school teacher and an Explorer leader, bowled in a weekly league, and was a member of the Mt Lildon UCW.

Most of all Mom will be remembered for her hospitality. If you walked in the door you knew you would be fed. Her freezer always had a couple of casseroles or meals "just in case" they were needed. Thursdays were always baking day and the house would be filled with the smell of fresh bread and cookies when we got home from school.

Her welcoming smile, her energy and her offbeat sense of humour will be greatly missed.

Love you Mom.
