With sadness, we announce the passing of Mervin Peter Buddick, our dear brother, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend, at the age of 62.
Peacefully and with dignity, he left us on February 4, 2023, at St Peter's Hospital in Melville, Saskatchewan, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Merv was the sixth of seven children born to Steve and Christina Buddick. The large, active family moved to Brandon in the early 1960s, where Merv was raised under traditional prairie influences. He was active in sports and excelled in judo, baseball, and soccer as he grew up in Brandon's east end. Merv spent his formative years at St Augustine's and graduated from Crocus Plains High School.
As a young adult, Merv explored an engineering career at Canadian Occidental, worked as a lineman for CP Rail, and spent time as a field assistant at Noranda Mines. Merv went on to work as a Winnipeg-based long haul truck driver, and travelled extensively through Canada and the USA, throughout his 30s.
In his early 40s, "Manitoba Merv" moved to Neudorf, Saskatchewan, where he spent several decades enjoying a peaceful, small town lifestyle with his poodles. He worked as a handyman and painter, and was a loved and respected member of the community, regularly playing golf with his friends, at one of his favourite places to be, the Neudorf Golf Course.
Merv was predeceased by his father Steve (1981), brother Raymond (1990), sister Shirley (2020), sister Beverly (2020) and mother Christina (2020).
His life will be warmly remembered and celebrated by his sister, Chris (Bob); brother in-law, Mel; brother, Larry (Carol); brother, Vince; niece, Debb (Colin); nephew, Gord (Eunjung); nephew, James (Monika); niece, Star (Justin); nephew, Jordan (Cynthia); his good friend, Kelly, as well as many other friends across Western Canada.
Merv was a kind, generous man, who loved all animals, and will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
A toast to Merv!
He would like that.
Love you Merv!
