“The Train of Life”

At our birth we board the train of life and meet our parents with the belief that they will always travel by our side.

However, at some unknown station, our parents will step down from the train leaving us to continue on our journey without them.

As time goes by, many people will board our train. Some will be particularly significant on our journey, especially friends and family. Others will be passing acquaintances but may nevertheless leave lasting impressions on us.

We soon come to realize that along the way many fellow travellers will step down and some will leave a permanent void in our lives.

Our train rides will be filled with joy, hope, sorrow, expectations, regrets, disappointments, achievements, hellos, goodbyes, and final farewells.

If we are able to give the best of ourselves to one another, our train rides will be successful. We will all come to understand that we will never know how heavy the baggage is that others are carrying on their journey. Therefore, we should strive to live with love, empathy, and forgiveness.

The mystery for all of us will be in not knowing at which station we ourselves will step down. When our time comes to step down, if we have travelled with kindness, generosity, and compassion, we will hopefully leave behind cherished memories for those who continue travelling without us.

I sincerely wish you all a fulfilling and meaningful journey on your train of life.

And may we all be grateful for the journey we were given.

I want to thank all of you that I was fortunate enough to have met on my train. My life was very much enriched by you and I am so glad you were part of my “ride”.

Our Mom chose the time for her 85-year journey to end. With the help of MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying) she stepped down peacefully on November 28, 2025.

Her husband, Ron, and daughter, Debbie, stepped down ahead of her.

She leaves her daughters, Candace, Rhonda, and Shaunna, and their families to carry on their journeys.

Our Mom would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, home care aides, neighbours, friends, and family for their attentive care that allowed her to stay independent and at home.

Our Mom would like to express her heartfelt gratitude to Health Links, the St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Department, and the St. Boniface Hospital Cardiac Care Department for all their help and guidance in the past few months. Our Mom would especially like to acknowledge Jennifer Hayward who treated her with exceptional dignity, respect, and compassion. We are all so very grateful and appreciative for all your kindnesses.

Respecting our Mom’s wishes, there will be no funeral.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Janice was a quiet friend who lived down the hall from me . I visited her often for short times and always sought her out to help me figure out the correct way to do certain things such as recipes or quilting . She had a wealth of knowledge about so many things and was always ready to share . I had no idea she was so ill and will miss her . - Posted by: Ruth wintemute (Friend) on: Dec 06, 2025

  • I spent lots of wonderful times with your Mom and Dad. Your mom and I were in W.I , palliative care, and church together in Erickson. My deepest sympathy to all of the family at this sad time , may all the happy memories bring you peace. - Posted by: Catherine Furevick (Friend) on: Dec 06, 2025

  • In my childhood, she was a "big" cousin, of high school age, so beautiful. I came to know her again when I moved back to Winnipeg and became involved with Vasa Lund Estates, where I enjoyed her Swedish harvchuk bread and generous hospitality. She also added to my knowledge of our shared family history. Bravery marks her decision to end her continuing health challenges. And I admire her beautifully written and inspirational words in her obituary. - Posted by: Karen Adams (Second cousin) on: Dec 06, 2025

  • My very deepest condolences to the family. That final stop when the person gets off the train and the rest of passengers must travel on, is heartbreaking. Love is an energy that can never disappear, it travels with us always in many different ways May the love of peace be with you. - Posted by: Marjorie Hnydiuk (Vasa Lund neighbours) on: Dec 06, 2025
