JANET GARTON
It is with deep sadness and much love that the family of Janet Garton announces her passing on November 18, 2025, at the age of 100, with her family by her side.
Janet was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert (Bob); her infant grandson, Christopher; and her cherished sister, Lillian, who lovingly raised Janet and her siblings after the early passing of their mother.
She is survived by her daughter Colleen (Don); her son Tim and grandson David; her granddaughter Christina (Kyle) and great-grandsons, Spencer and Casey; and her granddaughter Caelin (Kyle) and great-grandchildren Grady, Sage, and Harlan. She is also survived by her nieces, Brenda and Janet, nephews, Bruce and Dennis, and her brother Ken’s family in Calgary.
Janet was born and raised in Ochre River, Manitoba, alongside her older sisters Edna, Lillian, and Lucy, and her brothers Gord and Jack, as well as her younger brother Ken, with whom she shared a very special bond. She later moved to Winnipeg to live with her sister Edna and worked at Eaton’s. In the winter of 1947, just before Christmas, she met Bob - who stopped in for a drink while on his way home from a work shift with the Winnipeg Police. It was love at first sight.
Janet loved birds, cats, dogs, baking, chocolate, knitting, fishing (especially for pickerel), watching curling, walking, playing cards, and winning at crib. She also loved all things Scottish. She cherished the family cottage at Wallace Lake, which she and Bob built in 1969. Over the years, they hosted many gatherings with family and friends, creating countless memories. During Bob’s working years in Winnipeg and through their eventual retirement, the cottage remained a beloved place for them both. Above all, Janet loved her family with her whole heart, and they deeply loved her in return.
She was a kind, gentle, and caring soul - deeply loved and profoundly missed. We are so grateful she was our Mom, Nan, and Big Gram. Her passing has broken many hearts.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Deltaview Care Home (Cascades Unit) in Delta, BC, for their compassionate care during her final year.
Janet’s ashes will be interred at St. Anne’s Anglican Church Cemetery in Poplar Point, Manitoba, beside Bob, in the summer of 2026.
