It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Leo, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather at the age of 91 on December 7, 2025.
Dad was born June 25, 1934, in Tramping Lake, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) of 50 years in 2011 and his granddaughter Janelle in 2024. He is survived by his three children, Karen Veal, Patti (Lawrence) Carriere and Lance (Lisa), his six grandchildren, Rochelle (Chris) Mitchell, Nicole Roy (Matt Rice), Jackson (Silean) Veal, Ethan, Carson and Lance (Alysa) Carriere and his great-grandchildren Peyton and Ashtyn; Zoey and Skyler; Karter; Elliott, Jasper, and Thomas.
Dad served with the First Battalion, Princess Patricia Light Infantry from 1954 to 1957 peacekeeping in Germany. Upon his return to Canada, he settled in Winnipeg where he met Betty and raised his family. He worked for George N Jackson Ltd for over 35 years until his retirement in 1996.
Dad was a devoted Toronto Maple Leaf and Toronto Blue Jays fan all his life. Always cheering on his teams, hoping this will be the year.
Dad was an avid walker until a few years ago when it became too difficult. He was dedicated to keeping his walking route clean, always picking up stray litter. This attribute was appreciated by fellow walkers who wanted him to be recognized for his good deeds. Dad was a humble man who did not draw attention to himself, he just did what he believed was the right thing to do.
In accordance with Dad’s wishes, a public service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
