NICOLE BORGSTROM

On the afternoon of December 12, 2025, after a brave and lengthy battle with cancer, Nicole Sarah Borgstrom (nee McKelvy) passed peacefully surrounded by her closest family and with her two children at her side.

Nicole is survived by her husband Guillaume and children Liam and Brenna; her parents Grant and Val; brother Derek (Janis); siblings-in-law Chae (Brett), Dale and Nebrazka (Dustin); grandmother Alma McKelvy; and her nieces and nephews Kara, Hayden, Ryker, Jace, Callie, Coral, Graeson, Cayd and Brooks as well as countless other family members and friends that cared for her. She is predeceased by her grandpa Ron McKelvy with whom she had a special connection.

Nicole was born on October 25, 1983, in Neepawa, where she spent her childhood years attending school. She spent her summers at her family’s business, Sportsman’s Park, on the edge of Riding Mountain National Park and made lifelong friends in both communities. Nicole was lucky enough to meet the love of her life young, and met Gui one summer at the lake. Their shared love of Clear Lake and RMNP allowed them 23 amazing years of camping, waterskiing, hiking and adventuring in the area. Her favourite winter pastimes were synchro figure skating and downhill skiing. She spent her early skiing days at Minnedosa Ski Valley with friends and in her teen years with her family on trips to Banff and Whitefish, Montana. That love of skiing was further cemented when her and Gui spent a winter working and skiing in Fernie, BC. She passed that love of the mountain on to her children who were both skiing by 3 and were able to ski the Rocky Mountains with her at Lake Louise and Sunshine in 2023 and 2024.

Nicole always had an adventurous spirit; she spent her first year after high school on a Rotary Youth exchange in Argentina where she met friends and host families that she kept in contact with until her illness made it too difficult. Nicole and Gui also spent six months backpacking through Mexico and Central America, later spending 6 months living in a van all across western Canada and the states and eventually Baja with Liam when he was six months old. That trip was filled with countless (mis)adventures and some amazing friends were made. Together they also attended countless music concerts and festivals across North America.

Nicole worked hard in post secondary, first attaining a diploma from Red River, then her Commerce degree through Laurentian University before eventually attaining her CGA-CPA designation. She spent 14 years working as an accountant for Prairie Mountain Health.

Nicole will be remembered most by those that knew and loved her for her beautiful smile, kind demeanour and generous soul.

Her family would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses, HCA’s and everyone else that looked after her during her time at Cancer Care Brandon, BRHC and especially the Minnedosa Health Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nicole’s memory may be made to the Borgstrom Family Memorial Fund at any Sunrise C.U. or etransfer nicoleslegacyfund@gmail.com or alternatively to the Onanole Fire Department C/O R.M. of Harrison Park municipal office. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
