GARRY BRANT MAINS

Garry Brant Mains passed away on January 8, 2026, at Evergreen Place Personal Care Home, Boissevain.

Garry was born in 1943, to Earle and Margaret Mains and was brought up on the farm at NE 22-4-20, Morton- Boissevain Municipality. He attended Royal and Dunallen, country school, before going to Boissevain High School. He graduated from Grade 12 in 1962.

After grad he worked for Anglo Canadian Oil in Souris, Birtle, and Antler Sask. for a few years. He then returned to the farm and started farming with his father and brother Blaine. He and brother Blaine farmed together until 2019- 20, when Nevin took over most of the farming.

Garry was particularly proud to be on the home farm when it celebrated the 100th anniversary in 2006, and received the Manitoba Century Farm Award. Through his life Garry was an exceptionally good curler. He curled with many people, and enjoyed the fellowship on the ice, and after the game. He attended, and was on a winning rink, in many bonspiels. He was on the rink that scored an 8 ender in Wawanesa Bonspiel. He had 3 trips to the Manitoba Provincial Championships, in 1964, 1989, And Seniors in 1995.

Garry was active in the Boissevain Curling Club and served on the executive several times. He was a member of the Boissevain Lions Club for some years, and was a member of the Tuttle Mountain Wildlife Association.

Garry enjoyed hunting with friends, locally for deer, north to near Riding Mountain for moose, and in 2015 he and Blaine got an elk in the Turtle Mountains. In summer Garry enjoyed golfing at the Boissevain Golf Club. Garry always enjoyed family gatherings. He was part of family trips, picnics, camping, or to see Judy’s family in Saskatchewan. Sometimes winter trips took him away from the farm when it was not so busy. He went to Mexico and to visit his cousin in San Jose, California, several times. For some years he went to Regina Exhibition, and a trip to Scotland, to assist a friend with showing his cattle at cattle shows.

Several years before Garry left the farm he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. In the fall of 2021, he moved from the farm to Cherry Creek Place. He enjoyed his time there and remained there until July 2024. He moved to Evergreen Place in October of that year.

Garry was predeceased by his parents Earle and Margaret Mains. He is loving remembered by his brother Blaine (Neta), sister Judy (Doug) Bell, nieces and nephews Nadine, Nevin (Laura), Bryanne (Aaron), Marla(Kelly), great-nieces and nephews Kian, Shea, Paige, Remington, Oakland, Waverleigh, Rowan, Reese, Lachlan, Tyson, and Taylor.

Family would like to express thank you to staff at Cherry Creek Place, Boissevain Hospital, and Evergreen Place, for their care of Garry during his time there.

Thanks for the kindness and caring over the years by Dr. Nell and staff.

Donations in memory of Garry may be made to Parkinson’s Canada, Boissevain and Morton Foundation, or a charity of choice.
