GORDON WILLIAM KITCHEN

October 30, 1946 - January 13, 2026

Peacefully, after a brief illness, Gordon Kitchen passed away at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Isabela Kitchen and Sister Ann, Gord is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan, son David Kitchen (Sandra) daughter Jennifer Lane (Matthew), grandchildren Emmett, Arwen, Anna, and Oliver, sister Helen and many nieces and nephews.

Gord was born October 30 in Portage la Prairie. The youngest of Gordon and Belle Kitchen’s three children he was raised in Poplar Point on the family farm. He attended Poplar Point school where he participated in sports including football, hockey and his passion, baseball.

Gord moved on to high school in Portage la Prairie attending Portage Collegiate Institute where he and his 1964 Ford Fairlane caught the eye of Joan Smith. Gord and Joan married in 1967 and moved to St. Vital in Winnipeg.

Gord worked as a surveys technician for several years with the province of Manitoba. Shortly after the move to Winnipeg, he began studying to certify as a Land Surveyor which would be the focus of his work for his entire career, serving as a member of and president for both the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors and the Canadian Land Surveyors. Gord spent the better part of his career with the Government of Canada until his retirement in 2005.

Gord was a devoted husband and loving father and spent many hours coaching baseball, spending time with friends and family, and doing renovations at home and the cabin at Nutimik. Gord was a passionate sports fan whose love of the Winnipeg Jets could only be topped by that for the L.A. Dodgers whom he was thrilled to see win another pennant this past fall. Every project he worked on was made better by his lifelong love of music. Spending hours crafting playlists to serve as a soundtrack for life events, parties and get togethers with friends and neighbours.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Vic, and all the caregivers in his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation (hsfoundation.ca)

A farewell for Gord will be planned for spring 2026 at the baseball field in Poplar Point.
