JUNE WIELER
With heartfelt sadness, our family announces the passing of June Wieler (nee Hamm) at 95 years of age, on January 13, 2026, at Bethania Personal Care Home. She lived a rich and rewarding life.
June was born in a teacherage near Altona, Manitoba, the eldest of five siblings. Since her parents Jim and Lucy Hamm were teachers, the family moved often. June had a happy childhood and made new friends easily. She completed Grade 12 in Winkler, Manitoba and went on to Normal School. She had always wanted to be a teacher.
She accepted a teaching position in Altona where she met Alvin Wieler who she thought was stunningly handsome. They married in 1955 and moved to Winnipeg. June spent ten years at home raising her two children, Helen and Tim, after which she returned to educating young children in a variety of capacities. She was passionate about teaching and felt it was her calling.
She retired in 1991 which gave her more time to enjoy her granddaughters, summers at the cottage on Lake Winnipeg and winters in Arizona. She had many interests such as volunteering at church, tutoring at Rockwood Correctional Facility, watercolour painting, writing stories and gardening.
June was a keeper of traditions. Every holiday, birthday and special event was always celebrated with delicious dinners, handwritten cards and thoughtful gifts. She deeply valued family, faith and friendships.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Alvin of 70 years; daughter Helen (Brian) and son Tim (Laurie); granddaughters, Sarah (Mike), Katherine (Gabriel); and two great-grandsons, Ezra and Jonah; as well as her beloved sisters, Florence, Bernice and Glenys; and nieces and nephews.
June was predeceased by brother Jim Hamm and sister-in-law Darlene; brothers-in-law, Arkie Wiens, George Brown and Dave Acland.
Special thanks to Bethania Personal Care Home and River East Church for their care and support.
Cremation has taken place.
Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026 at River East Church, 755 McLeod Avenue, Winnipeg, with lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in memory of June.
