It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Richard William (Bill) McKnight, age 89.
Dad was born June 19, 1936 at Gunnworth, Saskatchewan, the 6th of 7 children to Ross and Ida. The family moved to Oak Point in March 1944, Dad finished school at Radway about 1.5 miles from the farm. Dad loved horses from an early age and still had 4 horses in the end. He was still fixing harness a week before he entered the hospital. Dad farmed all his life and had many stories of days gone by of his farming lifestyle.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 63 years, Joyce. Son Dan and children, Kim (John), Cheyanne, Oliver, Owen and John. Daphne (Troy), Theron, Danette (Brady), Bennett and Emmett. Janelle (Mason). Son Tim (Cindy), children Tracy (Garret), Bryce (Hailey), Haylee and Zach. Ryan (Erica), Wyatt. Michelle (Devon), Drayden, Kane, Ellie. Sam (Wade). Daughter Esther (Wayne) Lightfoot, Wayne Jr. (Anna). Brent (Kaitlyn), Braxon, Bella, Weston. Tanya (Dustin), Zane. Son Glen (Lane) Brother Harry, Sister Rose, Brother-in-law Donnie (Heather), numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by parents Ross and Ida, in-laws Donald and Ada Emms. Sisters Marge (John) Dyck, Pearl (Alf) Emms, Annie (Les) Scharf, Brother Charlie (Barb) McKnight, in-law's Ruth (Jack) Cranston, Ruth McKnight and Don Koval.
Memorial service on Monday January 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Point Community Hall. Interment at the Oak Point East Cemetery. Lunch to follow. Pallbearers - Grandsons Wayne Jr, Brent and Ryan. Granddaughters Tracy, Kim and Daphne.
Thank you to the staff at Ashern General Hospital and Health Sciences Centre for their wonderful care and compassion while looking after Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
