Peacefully, with his family by his side, João Luís Cunha passed away suddenly on Monday, January 26, 2026.
João Luís Cunha was born on October 10, 1939, in São Miguel, Açores, Portugal. In 1968, he immigrated to Canada with his wife and her family, where he built a life grounded in hard work, friendship, and devotion to family.
He was employed at Versatile for many years and retired at the age of 58. João loved to travel the world, especially enjoying trips to Cuba with his beloved wife and close friends. He also treasured his summers spent at the Portuguese campground, where he enjoyed the company of neighbours and friends.
João was predeceased by his father José Cunha, mother Maria Inês Cunha, brothers Eduardo Cunha and José Cunha, sister Conceição Botelho, and brother-in-law Leonardo Botelho.
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 63 years, Maria Isabel Cunha, along with his godchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family, who will forever cherish his memory.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin Street N, with Funeral Mass to follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Cabral, Mark Cabral, Matthew Cabral, John Costa, Michael Costa, Jeffrey Clemente, Jerry Clemente, Justin Santos, Jason Clemente and Terry Costa.
