Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY LOUISE RYAN
Mary Louise Ryan died peacefully on January 23, 2026 after a life well-lived, regretting only that she had so many books left to read.
Mary Louise was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Mary Berry, and by Tim, her husband of 55 years. She is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen (Sean Strong), Jennifer (Peter Sigurdson), and Kerry (Jeope Wolfe), as well as grandchildren, Anna Sigurdson (Chris Plishka), Duncan Sigurdson (Stephanie Reimer), and Scout Wolfe.
Her actions spoke volumes: she supported friends with her gentle presence, had a strong work ethic and moral code, and made a warm home for her family. If you knew her butter tarts, you know what it is to be loved.
Mary Louise lived her life with integrity, and demonstrated clarity, conviction, and incredible strength. Her commitments were ironclad and her friendships were forever.
After growing up on Chestnut Street, Mary Louise became part of a close-knit Westwood neighbourhood that provided a colourful backdrop for her, Tim, and their girls: bridge games, caroling at Christmas, and legendary block parties. Her second home was at the cottage in Whytewold where she spent 72 summers - the third of five generations of family who delighted in that special place.
Mary Louise valued family and learning. A graduate of United College, she was a voracious reader and had wide-ranging interests, including food, travel, Celtic music, and family and local history. She was a Spelling Bee Genius to the end.
We are grateful to the compassionate staff of Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit 3 East, including Dr. Butterworth and Dr. Gervin.
Never one for the spotlight, our mom has requested there be no service. If you wish, remember her with a brisk walk, a good book, or by dipping your toes in the lake. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the charity of your choice.
