John Ewashko (96) passed peacefully in Winnipeg, MB on January 30, 2026.
His memory lives on with his family, including his loving wife, Luba; children, Patricia, Laurence (Russell), Larissa; grandchildren Kayla (Byron), and Jacob; and nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed. A Funeral service will be held on February 5, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., Winnipeg, MB.

Living in Ottawa for 36 years, John's official RCMP duties included not only the protection of Her majesty the Queen in 1967, but the protection of Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau as well. . On one wintry day in Ottawa, Pierre Trudeau with Barbara Streisand on his arm made a grand surprise entrance to a night at the opera at the National Arts Center. Barbara was wearing a white wintry outfit with a white pill box hat, The celebrity couple look sensational as they made their way through the waiting concert goers who looked on in utter surprise and dismay. John was there in his official capacity and a witness to a night at the opera. John shared this experience with his fellow choir members the next morning in church, with a big smile on his face.
