EVELYN PESTRAK

July 13, 1931 – January 29, 2026

Peacefully, with family by her side, Evelyn passed away on January 29, 2026.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters Kim (David) and Judy, daughter-in-law Nijole, grandson Ryan, granddaughters Carrie (Aaron) and Karley, great-granddaughters Hannah, Mara and Dani, and great-grandson Bennett; along with many nieces and nephews and beloved friends. She was predeceased by her husband Fred and her son Don, as well as all her siblings and in-laws.

Evelyn and Fred married in 1951 and started their family two years later. While Mom worked a variety of part-time jobs that did not deflect from her primary focus on raising three children, once her family was grown, she worked as a receptionist for Dr. Kahane (a dentist) for 26.5 years.

Evelyn was well known to neighbours far and wide, during the 55 years that she lived on Kenaston Blvd, because of her passion for the outdoors; where she was constantly tending to her flowers, cutting the grass, or going to ‘play outside’ shoveling snow – all of which she did until she was 93. Mom loved her family fiercely and deeply touched the lives of an immeasurable number of people.

Our heartfelt thanks to staff at River Ridge I and, in particular, Executive Director Shannon Chartrand; and primary home care nurse, Palomar Soriano.

A private service was held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to SPIKE or the Kidney Foundation in Evelyn’s memory, for those who may so desire, or to a charity of their choice.

  • I have so many wonderful memories of Mrs. Pestrak. Being a close friend to her daughter Kim, I spent many hours at their home where Mrs. Pestrak nurtured us with love and amazing home cooked food. She was an incredibly strong, kind, humble soul and will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. - Posted by: Barb Andersson (Friend) on: Feb 07, 2026
