Kenneth Michael Rose, aged 69, of Calgary Alberta, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre surrounded by his family.
He was born June 21,1956 in Killarney, MB, to parents Maizie and Lorne Rose. He is survived by wife Diane; two daughters Elizabeth and Kathleen, and two grandsons Cache and Wynn. He was predeceased by his parents Maizie and Lorne Rose and his sister Lorna Rose.
Ken attended the Killarney Elementary Schools and Killarney Collegiate. He was an astute athlete participating in football and Minor Hockey Leagues.
After graduating High School in 1975, he worked and apprenticed with Bruce Turner at RBT Construction. During this time, he attended Red River College, where he acquired his Red Seal Carpentry Certificate. Later, he worked for Hysop Construction. As construction slowed, Ken became the Lumber Manager at Killarney Coop Hardware and Lumber.
Ken was a very talented carpenter. He did many jobs outside of work, especially for family. His last project was the shed on his campsite at Kerry Park. It took him all summer to build, refusing many offers of help from his good friends. He knew, in his heart, this would be his last project and he was going to do it himself. He was proud of his final accomplishment.
While Ken was busy working on his career, he was also busy working on his social life. He played recreational hockey and shamrock hockey in the winter. In the summer he loved to play "Retread” ball, which was often referred to as "Tread" ball. He and his friends participated in many local area baseball tournaments. The team always played well and was sure to have fun.
Weekends and holidays were enjoyed camping with friends and family. Popular spots he enjoyed included Lake Adam, Rushing River and Winnpeg Beach.
Ken retired from his last job, as a superintendent of buildings and maintenance for Turtle Mountain School Division.
Ken travelled to Vancouver, Jamaica, Maui, and Arizona, but much preferred to be at home.
Ken and Diane bought a fifth-wheel at Kerry Park. Ken loved it. The following year they moved to Calgary where Ken was quite content with the warmer winters. This permitted him to BBQ 365 days of the year and he loved that!
Ken will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends. With his sense of humour and witty comments, many a laugh would be shared by all.
Ken, you are loved and will forever be in our memories.
