Very much loved partner of June Thomson and big brother to Ken, Louise , and Rob, Don Wilson passed away peacefully and with dignity at Kelowna General Hospital. He is survived by his siblings and their families and by June and her family: Brian and Katt, Seleena and Shane, Michael, Lexus, and Jocelynn. Don leaves behind many friends in Kelowna and in his summer homes of Winnipeg and War Eagle L., Ontario.
Don was born in Kamloops, grew up in Kelowna and taught school in Prince George, B.C. - a true B.C. mountain man. However, he grew to love the open prairies of Manitoba and the shield country of N.W. Ontario. His favourite things to do were cycling the Winnipeg bike trails, canoeing the Seine R. where he marveled at its serenity in the center of the city, and soaking up the beauty of War Eagle L. His eyes and ears were always on alert for the birds everywhere he went, particularly "his pair" of loons at War Eagle.
Don and June travelled the world visiting all 7 continents, Don mostly chasing birds with June just tagging along for the ride but reminding them all "there is more to life than birds"! Don will be profoundly missed by his family, his community in Kelowna, and his many friends in Manitoba including the Grey Hares of Nature Manitoba and the Prairie Nordic (Charleswood) Ski Club. We are very grateful for the wonderful care Don received from the staff at Kelowna Hospital.
Goodbye my love.

The sudden passing of our dear friend Don came as a shock. We looked forward to more time with Don. Especially missed will be his and June’s occasional visits to our cottage where we looked forward to our annual trek with Don along the trails where he instructed us in Ornithology identifying most of the birds by song alone. And shared with us his deep knowledge of the natural world, founded in science and fueled by passion. The Bird man of Kelowna now flies with the eagles. Heartfelt Condolences to June and Brian and Kat. There will be an empty chair around the table yes but fond memories in our hearts. Much love Paul and Charlotte. - Posted by: Paul And Charlotte Westdal (Friend) on: Feb 14, 2026
