Hubert "Bud" Wilson Harcus, 97, of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed on February 1, 2026.
Bud was born in 1928 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. At 16, Bud entered the workforce with CN rail, enjoying a long career, working his way to top management until his retirement at 60 years. From there, he worked at VIA rail for 5 years in Montreal and Winnipeg. Bud was dedicated to his family and loved being outdoors. You would often find him camping with his family, working with the Scouts, and taking meticulous care of his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Therese; their children, Brian and Catherine (Gordon) Cummings; their grandchildren, Lindsay (Chris), Nelson, and Sarah (Jay); and great-grandchildren, Kaydence, Sawyer, Rory, and Piper; in-laws Angeline (Paddy) Quaite, Bertha Richards, Gerry Tousignant, and Jeanette Tousignant; the many nieces and nephews; and the Harcus relatives in Lockport and Winnipeg.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alice and Hubert and his sister Margaret (Bill).
His humour, laughter, and dedication will remain in our hearts forever.
We want to thank the wonderful staff that looked after Bud at Poseidon Care Home and Dr. Kovales for his care over the years.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bud. I had the honour of being a colleague of Bud’s at both CN and Via Rail. When Bud joined the management group at Via’s maintenance centre he brought incredible knowledge and experience, but it was his other traits that made him the perfect mentor to a rather young group of individuals. Bud never forced his opinion on any of us younger, less experienced colleagues. But his kind approach, the generosity he displayed with his time and his incredible loyalty were traits he exhibited that made us all comfortable with asking for his opinion. When we were in a room with Bud, we knew the smartest person in the room, and it was not any of the rest of us. A few years later Bud became a neighbour of ours and he was as kind and generous as a neighbour as he was a colleague. Rest in Peace good man. - Posted by: Don B (Former Colleague) on: Feb 14, 2026
