GAYLE LOUISE LUMSDEN

(nee GROOM)

August 28, 1953 – February 7, 2026

Beloved wife, mother and sister, Gayle, leaves to mourn her husband Mike, son Matthew, sisters Heather, Janice (Ron), her brother Jim, sister-in-law Marnie, good friends Terry and John, Sandy and Roger and childhood friend Alister as well as many friends and relatives.

Gayle’s early years were spent in the west-end where she attended Tec Voc and Daniel Mac. She worked for many years with the Manitoba Forestry Branch, in the early years of digitizing maps.

Gayle and Mike loved the outdoors, spending summers camping, first at Big Whiteshell and later with a cabin at West Hawk. They hosted many visitors, both friends and relatives. After retirement, winters were spent in Bucerias, Mexico, where they once again welcomed friends and family.

Gayle was very creative. An excellent seamstress, Gayle made many quilts and an unforgettable leather jacket with coloured leather inserts as well as many shirts and dresses that her sisters borrowed often. She loved crafts and we all have cherished Christmas ornaments from her.

Her love of animals is well known. Her home was never without a dog or cat. Lindo was her joy these last years.

She will be deeply missed for her beautiful smile and quick wit, her kindness and generosity.

Cremation has taken place. The family is planning a Celebration of Her Life in the spring.

  • Gayle and I were best friends during our wild and crazy growing up years from 1972 to 1978. We worked at Federated Co-op together, getting involved in all the socials, baseball, bowling and riding our motorcycles together. Okay, mine was a Moped. How we laughed when the Harley Davidson guy pulled up beside us and said "Get those sewing machines out of here." Gayle sewed an elephant costume from a hoola hoop and we had to find somebody with a van to take us to the Halloween party. I was a green 17 year old farm girl when I met Gayle. Between her and Nancy they helped me grow up, which was quite trying at times. I was so glad when she met Mike. I wanted her to find someone special that would appreciate how unique she was. Love you up there, Gayle. Think of your Skinny Lynney and smile. - Posted by: Lynne Knott (Friend) on: Feb 14, 2026

  • Been friends with Gayle for 36 years. Was fortunate to meet her when she fell in love with her best friend & husband Mike. John had known her since grade school & she always teased me that he was the first boy she kissed. She would chuckle & have that beautiful smile every time. She was the kindest, generous friend throughout, to the very end🥲We got to enjoy many get together, dinners at our home, visiting them at their trailer in Big Whiteshell, Cabin in West Hawk lake & several vacation trips to there condo in Bucherias She had a quiet nature, with the greatest sense of humour & a true friend❤️ It was hard to see her suffer in the end, but continued to welcome us for visits & tryed her best to reminish about the good times. She was a strong lady - Posted by: Terry Jameson (Friend) on: Feb 14, 2026
