John was born on April 10, 1940, in Gnadenfeld, Paraguay. As the eldest male among nine siblings, he spent his formative years contributing to the family farm. He frequently recounted his early experiences working with horses.

He was known for his concise communication, with his words carrying significant weight. John was also an excellent listener, but withheld advice unless requested.
John will be profoundly missed.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg, with viewing prior to the service.
