JAMES (JIM) LEWIS
With heavy hearts we share that Jim passed away at home, with his family by his side, at the age of 66.
Jim is survived by his wife of 39 years, Liette; children, Alyssa (Greg), and Courtney (Sam); granddaughters, Hallie, Jane, and Mylah; siblings, Jean (Albert), Helen (Barry), Richard (Marie-Lynn), and Patricia (Patrick); and extended family and friends.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Jim attended Red River Community College in Business Administration and Accounting. Jim was lucky enough to pursue his passion, working in the realm of home improvement, culminating in him opening Jim’s Home Improvements; a successful paint and hardware business he ran for 23 years, before he retired at age 56.
Beyond his professional life, Jim enjoyed home improvements, helping others with renovations, walking (a “short” walk meant from River Heights to the stadium), cycling, playing hockey, and supporting local craft beer establishments. Jim loved wintering in Arizona. Jim enjoyed spending time building model trains and Lego with his children and then grandchildren. Jim was a longtime Blue Bomber and Jets season ticket holder. These loves helped form his great fashion sense.
Most importantly, Jim cherished his family. He was a loving husband, a proud father, and a doting grandfather.
Jim was given the gift of being able to say goodbye to many dear friends in person, sharing stories, laughter and heartfelt words. His strength, courage and grace were truly inspiring. Gone too soon and forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Never Alone Cancer Foundation.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for immediate family.

I was a school friend of Jim's who sadly - inevitably - lost touch as our lives progressed and we moved in different directions. I do, however, still have fond memories of Jim and me and our infamous "Stop Sign" escapade. A number of years ago, I visited Winnipeg from my adopted home in Edmonton, and stopped by Jim's Home Improvements and chatted with Jim for a bit. I was impressed by the reassuring community vibe of the store and Jim's quiet confidence in what he had built. It was only a fleeting reacquaintance, but I came away with a strong sense that Jim was happy with where his life's journey had taken him. My deepest condolences to all of Jim's family, friends, and loved ones. - Posted by: Alan Shaw (Old School Friend) on: Feb 21, 2026

Liette, We are so very sorry to hear about Jim. Rheal was just talking about how he hasn’t been ice fishing this year and recalled how he ran into Jim and his brother Richard snowmobiling on the lake a few years ago. We remember Jim as a kind soul… a true gentleman. Sending our love to you and your family. Rheal & Sandy. - Posted by: Sandy & Rheal Gousseau (Friend) on: Feb 21, 2026
