Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELLEN SHERMAN
With great sorrow, we announce that Ellen Sherman passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, with her family by her side.
Ellen is survived by her sons, David (Angie) and Peter (Joanne); grandchildren Brittney, Jordan and Alexandre; and great-granddaughter Hudson. She was predeceased by her husband Michael, mother Rosa Ahoff (nee Dodokin) and father Peter Ahoff.
Born in Winnipeg in 1938, Ellen grew up on Lansdowne Avenue in the North End. In high school, she played forward for the city-championship winning Tec Voc Hornets basketball team, coached by her beloved father.
After graduation, she worked as a secretary at United Grain Growers, where she would meet Michael. They wed in 1960 and she continued her career up until shortly before she had her first son, David.
A dedicated mother, Ellen worked in the home for the rest of her life, keeping everyone well-fed, well-dressed and well-loved.
Ellen kept up her interest in sports by curling at West Kildonan Curling Club and later by joining a bowling league out of Billy Mosienko Lanes. She was a lifelong Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan who maintained season tickets that had been with her family for more than 70 years.
With her outgoing and generous personality, Ellen made friends wherever she went. She never showed up for a visit empty-handed.
In her later years, Ellen cherished time with her grandchildren, taking care of her “grand-dog” and entertaining in her new home in Riverbend.
Dementia did not diminish her kind spirit and her ability to make everyone feel special in her presence.
Special thanks to the staff at River Ridge II, River Ridge, St. Boniface Hospital and Home Care Services, for their care and compassion.
A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg, on Friday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, we kindly request that donations be made to the IBD Clinical and Research Centre.
