CORY LEIGH NEVILL

With deep sadness, the family of Cory Leigh Nevill of Brandon, Manitoba, announces her passing on February 24, 2026, at Rideau Personal Care Home at the age of 61. Born December 17, 1964, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Cory spent her early years there before moving to Brandon to attend Brandon University, where she completed her Education Degree.

From a young age, Cory was known for her big heart, vibrant spirit, and love of people. She was a childhood cheerleader, a fashion enthusiast—often wearing outfits lovingly sewn by her mother—and a devoted animal lover whose home was never without the companionship of her cherished cats.

Cory’s passion for teaching and learning shaped her life’s work. Over the past 34 years, she devoted herself to education as both a teacher and lifelong learner, guided by deep curiosity and unwavering dedication to her students. For the past 22 years, Cory was a valued member of the Brandon School Division, most recently serving as a literacy specialist. Her impact reached countless students and colleagues across rural and urban schools alike.

Cory also contributed to higher education, teaching in the Faculty of Education at Brandon University through the PENT and after-degree programs. She inspired future educators with her warmth, wisdom, and steadfast belief in the power of storytelling and lifelong learning.

Beyond her professional life, Cory was an active supporter of the arts, frequently involved in school theatre productions. She loved reading—often with several books on the go—and treasured the moments spent sharing stories with her beloved nieces. Her dedication to family was unwavering; she was a thoughtful sister, a loving aunt, and a loyal friend who delighted in celebrating others with small gifts and meaningful gestures.

Cory was predeceased by her father Robert (Bob) Nevill, mother Lynn Powers, and stepfather Al Powers. She is lovingly remembered by her stepmother Wilma Nevill; brother Rhett Nevill and sister-in-law Stacy Nevill; and nieces Andi Nevill, Casey Nevill, and Sylvie Nevill.

There will be no funeral service at this time, but a Celebration of Life ceremony will be announced at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Brandon Literacy Council Inc. or the Brandon Humane Society in memory of Cory’s lifelong passions for learning and animals.

Cory’s legacy is one of compassion, creativity, and inspiration—an educator, mentor, and friend who forever enriched the lives of those she touched.
