Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARILYNNE MARTIN
Marilynne Odney Martin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, was born August 18, 1937, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and passed away February 3, 2026, in Moose Jaw.
She was the daughter of Charles Young and Odney (Gunderson) Young and grew up in Moose Jaw surrounded by extended family. She completed a teaching degree at University of Saskatchewan and met her husband, Dan in Saskatoon while teaching. Marilynne and Dan were married on August 13, 1963, in Saskatoon. Shortly after, they embarked on a defining chapter of their lives, living and working in Uganda for six years through the Canadian International Development Agency. Both served as teacher educators there, and during this time their sons, Robert (1966) and Richard (1969) were born. The experience shaped their lives deeply and fostered lifelong friendships. After returning to Canada, the family lived in Calgary and Saskatoon before settling in Winnipeg, where Marilynne taught kindergarten until her retirement. She formed many close friendships there and was a devoted and supportive mother, later finding great joy as a grandmother.
In retirement, Marilynne and Dan divided their time between the family farm in southern Saskatchewan and Weslaco, Texas, where she was active in her retirement community and built lasting friendships. Following Dan’s passing in 2015, Marilynne moved to Moose Jaw, remaining active in retirement living until her final year at Chateau St. Michael’s. Creativity was a constant in her life. An accomplished quilter and craftsperson, she earned recognition for her work, much of which remains treasured by family and friends.
Marilynne is survived by her sons, Robert Martin (Brigitt) and Richard Martin (Michelle), and her grandchildren, Zena and Hazel.
The family extends sincere thanks for the many messages of condolence and expresses sincere gratitude to the staff at Chateau St. Michael’s for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of gratitude may be made to the staff at Chateau St. Michael’s.
A service will be held in the summer of 2026 in Kayville, Saskatchewan, with a virtual option available.
