It is with sadness we announce the passing of our father and husband. James is survived by his wife Janet; sons, Jim Jr., Grant, Ross, and Scott Mackenzie.

I first met Jim and Bruce at McDonald’s Unicity. Bruce asked me if I liked hockey and I said yes that my dad and I used to go to the Glace Bay Miners hockey games. Jim said he used to play hockey for the Glace Bay Miners! I looked up Jim’s career and found out he was a great goal scorer. Wow! 60 plus years later and 2800 miles from my hometown, I happened to meet Jim who I actually watched playing hockey. He was an interesting person to talk to. My deepest sympathies to the Mackenzie family. Can't say enough good things about Mr. Mackenzie and I'll miss our conversations. He always took the time to stop whatever he was doing and ask "how your parents doing", which I always appreciated. Jim was a key player on Winnipeg Maroons Allan Cup teams in the early 1960s. I was a teammate. Jim was a confident, quiet gentleman for whom I had great respect. I confirmed that respect in 1961 accepting his offer of a flight in his plane during which he introduced me to engine stalls & other tricks of being a pilot. Everything Jim did he did with class!
