Rosa Sarkany (née Geiger), aged 84, passed away unexpectedly on February 24, leaving her loved ones with memories of her generosity, humour, and kindness.
Born in Budapest, Hungary, Rosa immigrated to Carman, Manitoba, via Germany as a child before making Winnipeg her lifelong home.
Rosa was the beloved eldest child and only daughter of Anna and Martin Geiger. She was predeceased by her brother Steve in 2024 and by her husband and great love, Michael “Mike” Sarkany, whose passing in 2010 left a lasting void. She is lovingly remembered by her brother Martin and his wife Darlene. Rosa married Mike in Winnipeg in 1963, beginning a 47-year love story marked by deep devotion, shared humour, hard work, and a bond of mutual adoration.
Known lovingly as “Gaga", Rosa’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Annie; her son, Michael; grandchildren, Miranda (Ian), Nicolas (Taylor), Lucas, and Reid; and her great-grandson, Zak, who was the beloved joy of her final years. To her family, Rosa was simply Gaga. She was complicated, funny, fiercely loyal, loving, and utterly irreplaceable. She lived a full and beautiful life, shaped by strong moral convictions and a deep care for others. Her voice, her cooking, her advice and the way she continually showed up for her family will be missed forever.
A service will be held at Christ the King Church on March 19, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. with a light lunch to follow.
