TERRY ALEXANDER KOSTELNYK

July 6, 1950 - March 9, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear brother, Terry Kostelnyk, on March 9, 2026, at the age of 75 years.

Terry will be deeply missed by his partner, Sandra Spence, and will be lovingly remembered by his five siblings, Tom (Angele), Deloris (Ric), Peter (Tanice), Karen, June (Peter), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours. Terry was predeceased by his parents, John and Olga Kostelnyk.

Terry was born at the Women’s Pavilion in Winnipeg and was raised in the Van Dusen area near St. Martin. He attended Van Dusen School from grades 1 through 8 and Gypsumville School for high school. In his younger years, Terry enjoyed playing fastball with the early version of the Hijackers. We have a great photo of Terry and his two brothers in their Hijacker uniforms, where they played second base, shortstop and third base - the Kostelnyk connection!

Terry spent most of his life on the family farm, initially farming with his dad and then later with his brother Tom. He spent many winters as a commercial fisherman on Lake Manitoba. He also worked at Jenpeg on the Hydro project near Norway House for a couple of winters. When his parents moved to Ashern, Terry decided to stay on the farm on his own. He retired from farming in 2016 and moved to Ashern, where he met his partner, Sandra Spence. Terry enjoyed living in Ashern, being close to all the conveniences.

Terry had a laid-back personality and was never in a rush. If a family gathering was being held, we often had to tell him it was starting an hour earlier than it actually was, just so that he would arrive in time to join us. His schedule ran on "Terry-time". His mom often said that he reminded her so much of her own father, Tom Trochanowski, both in his personality and looks.

From his life on the farm, Terry developed a strong appreciation for nature. He enjoyed gardening, and even when he moved to Ashern, he set up tubs outside the window of his apartment so that he could continue to grow vegetables. Terry also enjoyed listening to music and had a great singing voice.

Terry had many health issues during his later years, but he tried to deal with them as best he could. He could often be seen driving around Ashern on his scooter, either heading off to meet his friends for coffee, or going to visit his mom.

If so desired, donations may be made in Terry’s memory to St. Martin Cemetery, c/o Corleen Halkowich, PO Box 17, St. Martin, MB ROC 2T0.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial service will be held.

Terry’s memory will live on in our hearts forever and may he rest in peace.
