KENNETH ROY SIMPSON

1937 - 2026

Kenneth Roy Simpson, born November 8, 1937, in Winnipeg, passed away March 5, 2026.

Ken attended St. Ann’s Catholic School in St. James and, despite limited opportunities, was known for his perseverance and strong work ethic, including delivering the Toronto Star Weekly. He loved church, worship, and singing.

Ken spent 23 years in institutions, including the Manitoba Developmental Centre and four years at the Pelican Lake Centre; these were difficult years for Ken. He later lived most of his life in Winnipeg with community supports. Under New Directions, Richard and Georgina, then Don and Cindy, provided a home for Ken for 25 years. Mila Restar, with her husband Gerry and two sons, supported Ken in his remaining years.

Ken participated in Special Olympics, including the Calgary National games, and enjoyed talking with people and leading family Christmas carols.

Predeceased by his parents Mary (nee Marie Giesbrecht) and Jack Simpson, sister Norma Levesque, and sister-in-law Laurel McLaughlin. Survived by his brother John; nieces Kelsey Simpson (Kevin and Audrey Kotyk) and Kenna Simpson; nephew David Simpson (Laura Lunn); niece Trinda Collister (Darren); nephew David Levesque (Shari); nieces Kimberly and Jennifer Levesque, and their children.

Thanks to Victoria General Hospital, Community Venture, New Directions, and his church family from Weetamah.

Donations may be made to Community Living Manitoba (#6-120 Maryland Street, Winnipeg, MB R3G 1L1) or the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (675 McDermot Avenue, Room ON1016, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9).
