VERLA GWENDOLINE ZUZANSKI

(nee SALMON)

October 4, 1931 - March 22, 2026

Peacefully on March 22, 2026, our mother, grandmother and best friend, Verla Zuzanski, passed away at the age of 94.

She was predeceased by her husband Joe; parents, Mary and Eph Salmon; sisters, Vel Potter (Don), Betty Hickman (Clarence) and brother George Salmon (Vera).

Verla leaves to mourn in passing daughters, Joanne Procyshyn (Dave), Colleen Fox (Ashley); son Morley Zuzanski (Louise); and grandchildren, Trevor, Danielle (Owen), Curtis (Samantha), Lauren and Alex; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Verla was born and raised in Birtle Manitoba. She graduated from Normal School and began her teaching career in Swan River. From there she moved to Souris to teach, where she met and married the love of her life, Joe Zuzanski. In 1961, Verla, Joe and their children lived in Kuala Lumpur Malaya for one and a half years while Joe helped set up the Technical Teachers Training College. When they returned to Rivercrest, Verla and Joe raised their family and spent their retirement years travelling and camping with family and friends. After Joe passed, Verla moved to River Ridge 1 where she met many new friends.

Thanks to the staff at River Ridge 1 for all the kindness and care they gave Mom. Also, thanks to the staff on 7 south at St Boniface Hospital for the compassion they showed Verla and her family during her final days.

As per Verla’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Verla’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba.

  • My deepest condolences to the family. Mom was such a great neighbour to the McCalders. I just saw her a few months ago and we had a nice conversation. Cherish her memories with love…..Sharon Yackel - Posted by: Sharon Yackel (McCalder (Neighbour) on: Mar 28, 2026
