It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marilyn Ann Tkach (née Brannan) on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Marilyn will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kerilynn (Dave) and Darcy (Melissa); her goddaughter, Lana (Darcy), and godson, Kevin (Corrinna); and her cherished grandchildren, Joshua (Ryan), Jamie (Anna), Ireland, Evelyn, McKenna, McKenzie, Cameron (Ashlynn), Brooklyn, Aiden, Avery and Arielle.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter; her mother, Reta; her father, James; her sister, Bernie; her brothers, Jack (Lorna), Harold (Bernadette), and Leslie (Frances); her father-in-law, Peter; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth; her sister-in-law, Mary; her brothers-in-law, Harry and Paul; her niece, Terry; and her nephews, Rick, Anthony and Trevor.
Marilyn was born on June 10, 1937, in Rivers, Manitoba. Her family later moved to Emerson, where she formed many lifelong friendships as part of the "Emerson Group". They eventually settled in Somerset, where she met the love of her life, Peter, who was working with CN Rail. Together they built a life that took them across Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan before returning to Winnipeg, where they raised their family.
Marilyn worked as an operator with MTS before dedicating herself fully to her role as a devoted wife and mother. She was always on the go, supporting Kerilynn and Darcy in their many activities, from sports to swimming lessons, and creating a home filled with warmth, care, and laughter.
She treasured summers at Clear Lake, where time spent at her sister’s log cabin created countless cherished family memories.
Marilyn had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her home was always open, and she took great pride in cooking and entertaining. Sunday dinners were a beloved tradition, featuring her roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with all the fixings.
A creative and talented woman, Marilyn wrote and designed her own cookbook, Le Book, a collection of her favourite recipes. She later authored Meandering with Marilyn, with the support of her dear friend Kathy during their cherished Tuesday evening visits, which continued throughout the years.
She enjoyed weekend trips to Shooting Star with Paul and Florence, as well as outings to Club Regent and the Rivercrest Hotel with her lifelong friend Joy - always with the hope of hitting the jackpot. She also treasured time spent with her close-knit group of friends during their monthly rummoli gatherings, filled with laughter and companionship.
Marilyn loved walking her granddogs, Lucky and Bailey, and she and Peter shared a passion for making homemade wine, often enjoying the fruits of their labour with family and friends.
Marilyn was diagnosed with dementia in 2019. In October 2022, she moved to Kildonan Extendicare, where she received compassionate and attentive care. Her family is deeply grateful for the kindness and support she received throughout her time there.
Marilyn’s warmth, sense of humour, and loving spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Marilyn’s wishes, no formal service will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Gateway Recreation Centre, 1717 Gateway Road. Family and friends are invited to attend and share a story in memory of Marilyn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
