PETER RAYMOND (RAY) OLSON

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Peter Raymond ("Ray") Olson on March 21, 2026, at the age of 83.

Left to cherish Ray's memory are his wife Venus; his son Sean (Stephanie); his late son's wife Marnie; and grandchildren, Max and Kaden. Also mourning Ray's passing are his brother Richard (Karen); sister Karen LeBlanc; and Venus' children, Tara (Corey) and Ryan (Kelsey). He will also be forever missed by his dog Jesse.

Ray was predeceased by his dear son Todd; mother Alice; father Ernest; and siblings, Billy, Betty-Joan, Bonnie, and Adrienne.

Ray dedicated 37 years of his working life to Manitoba Hydro in various information systems positions, proudly supporting the early adoption of computers in the workplace. Personal computers were also a passion that extended to home, where he was frequently found tinkering with the latest software and hardware upgrades. In retirement, Ray embarked on an equally rewarding career as a school bus driver, which filled him with the same joy and excitement that the kids brought onto the bus every day. His favourite rides, though, were with his grandchildren on board.

Ray was proud of his time spent as a Freemason and Shriner. He was initiated into Freemasonry in 1970 and served with dedication in several roles. As a Shriner, he treasured his time with the Vintage Car Unit, where he took great delight regularly driving his prized 1964 Mercury Montclair in parades and club gatherings across Manitoba.

In keeping with Ray's wishes, there will be no funeral service. His remains have been donated to the University of Manitoba for training and scientific purposes.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Oakview Place for their compassionate care during Ray's final days.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Just a note, Venus, expressing my condolences. My late husband, Otto, will bewaiting for him. Otto always enjoyed his coffees with Ray, solving the worlds problems and bragging about their toys. This was rare for Otto. He knew many car people, but seldom socialized with them, except for Ray. - Posted by: Roberta Beach (friend) on: Mar 29, 2026
