With sadness we announce the passing of Gladys Jean Lorrain (nee Starr) on March 25, 2026, at the age of 74 years.
Gladys was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kenora, Ontario on June 13, 1951. She was the first child of Jack and Mary Starr of Sagkeeng, Manitoba. She is now reunited with her loving parents; her precious baby Angel; granddaughter Chelsey; and siblings, Doris, Ronald, Albert, Barry, Linda, Brian, and Rosie.
Gladys leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 49 years Yvan; her son Kelvin and daughter-in-law Corrinne; daughter/niece Christine (Earl); sisters, Aldeen, Darlene, Margaret (Phil), Shirley, and Claudette (Jimmy); brother Byron (Debra); special sisters, Alma and Myrtle; sister-in-law Michelle; brothers-in-law, Bob and Don; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends.
Gladys worked as a sewing machine operator for over 30 years. She loved helping people in need. Her and Yvan were very involved in volunteering at the Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen.
Gladys was a devout Catholic and offered her prayers daily for family and friends. She loved boating, fishing, and camping. She would often take her nieces and nephews on her camping trips to Dogtooth Lake or Caliper Lake in Ontario.
We would like to thank her home care workers and the medical team at the Women’s Centre and Victoria General Hospital for their care in her final weeks.

Wake is being held at the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church Hall, Sagkeeng First Nation, MB, from Monday, March 30 to Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Funeral service will follow in the church, Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with final viewing at 1:00 p.m., Father Paul officiating. Interment in the St. Alexander Cemetery.
