Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERBERT ALLAN ROSS
It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of our father. Herb Ross passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, after a short stay at the Grace Hospital. Herb was a great man, father, grandpa and great grandpa.
Herb was predeceased by his wife, June (mom), who passed away in 2019. He was also predeceased by his two brothers, Barry Ross and Jim Ross.
Herb, a proud man, left behind his two sons, Brad Ross and Blair Ross (Carrie), sister-in-law Valerie Ross, sister-in-law Stacy Townson, grandson Troy Ross (Sara), great-granddaughter Sophie Ross, great-grandson Boe Ross, grandsons, Shane Ross (Chelsea), Matthew Ross (Celibeth), step-granddaughter Thuraya Brennan (Dawson) and step-grandson Kaeden Brennan.
As we think about Herb (dad) we realize how blessed and grateful we were to have him in our lives. He endured prolonged heart challenges since his late 40s. Sadly, Dad lost his father and both brothers at ages that were far too young. Herb managed to defy the odds to live a full life to 87.
Herb was not one for change. He had an amazing career, working for Air Canada for nearly 35 years. There he made many great friends that he stayed in touch, including Gary Peck, his work, curling, cottage and coffee buddy for more than 60 years. Just two weeks before dad passed, he was out and about having coffee with Gary. A great friendship.
Herb and June moved into our family home back in 1974. Herb lived in that house until his final days in hospital. He loved that house and the Westwood neighborhood.
Herb enjoyed the outdoors, particularly spending time at Victoria Beach. In 1979 he began building a family cottage there, one that he always enjoyed spending time at whenever he could. The cottage remains in the family and will always hold memories of him and the times together at Victoria Beach!
Another special friendship Herb and June had was with Marybet and Jim Gilroy. They were former neighbors and friends for more about 60 years. A couple of years before mom passed, Jim Gilroy passed. Following moms passing in 2019, Herb and Marybet developed a close companionship that has been very special for them both.
Marybet and Herb spent several years enjoying each others company, going to concerts, plays, symphonies, walks and just spending time together. To Brad and Blair, Marybet has always been like family. Marybet, your friendship with dad, especially these last several years, was so important to him and to us. We love you Marybet; we are family, always.
Herb (dad, grandpa, great-grandpa) we miss you deeply. Thank you for everything you were to us and our family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
Our family wishes to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital. We appreciate your care and compassion making it easier on dad and the family during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be amazing.

I met Herb in Norwood in 1948 and he was my best friend for five years before he moved away. Our lives diverged after that and I ended up in Toronto. But we reconnected in 2009 and stayed in contact after that, meeting whenever i was in Winnipeg. We last talked on the phone about three weeks ago. He was a straight up, wonderful guy and I'll miss him. - Posted by: Jim Arnett (Friend) on: Apr 14, 2026

I'm saddened to learn of Herb's passing and extend my sincere condolences to his family. I was pleased to have Herb as my supervisor, first at the AC Reservations Office and later at YWG. He provided me with valuable counsel when I was considering accepting a position at headquarters in Montreal. Thank you for your input, Herb. It worked out well. - Posted by: Ken Dzogan (AC Colleague) on: Apr 11, 2026
