“With a little bit of daring,
a little bit of dash, just a little naughty,
but lots and lots of class”
It is with deep sadness, the family of Arline Marriott (nee Flinton) announce her peaceful passing on April 6, 2026. It is also with joy, they share with you a life well lived.
Arline is pre-deceased by her husband Peter, and leaves behind five children, David (Judith), Philip (Donna), Helen (Doug), Susan (Mitch) and Carol (Phil); as well as her brother (John) and sister (Nancy). She also leaves grandchildren Laura (Chris), Ben (Melissa), Brian (Eliza), Ronnie (Matt), Bram (Gen), Sophia, Kevin (Carly), Simon (Kate), James, Joel (Harriet) and Jeremy (Isabelle) as well as four great-grandchildren Harvey, Felix, Isaac and Henry.
Arline was born in Sheffield, England on July 13, 1938, as the first child to Lily and Stanley Flinton. Arline never had the opportunity to know her father, who passed a few days before Arline’s birth. She grew up in Sheffield and met her eventual lifelong partner and husband, Peter, at a local community function. Arline and Peter married on September 20th, 1958, and spent the next 63 years together before Peter’s passing in 2021.
In 1965, with their three eldest children, Arline and her husband Peter took a chance and emigrated from England to Winnipeg, Canada. It was here that they were blessed with an additional two children and made many family memories including summer trips to Gimli and West Hawk Lake and made countless dear friends over the years.
Arline was a devoted mother staying busy raising her five children. In 1985, Arline and Peter moved to Thornhill, Ontario, where their lives together continued with the two youngest children still at home. Arline started playing tennis and gained a passion for golf and was often found on the Toronto Ladies’ Golf Course each summer. After Peter retired in 1990, Arline and Peter enjoyed many years of travel including trips to warm sunny locations, ocean cruises, and visits with their eleven grandchildren. Arline and Peter left Thornhill and returned to Winnipeg for several years before moving to Kelowna in 2001. In their final move, they returned to Winnipeg in 2019 for family support.
Arline pursued many passions throughout her life. She was an enthusiastic reader, creative writer and found enjoyment in various word games, especially cryptic crosswords. Arline joined the 80’s fitness craze becoming a fitness instructor, and found a new passion, teaching senior fitness classes. She also enjoyed going for long walks and had a deep love for animals, specifically her cats, whom she considered “part of the family.” Arline loved her tea and always enjoyed an afternoon tea break with friends or family.
The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff at both the River Ridge Retirement Residence and the Riverview Health Centre, who cared for Arline in her last few months.
The family will be holding a private Celebration of Life for Arline. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba is appreciated.
