With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of Nancy Bially (Dykun) on April 10, 2026, at the age of 92, at the Vita Personal Care Home.
Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Jarvis (Vickie) and Donny (Liza); her six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Nancy is predeceased by her husband Nestor (2022); her parents, Michael and Tetiana and her three brothers and three sisters.
Nancy was born on September 18, 1933, in Vita, Manitoba. She grew up in the Tolstoi and Gardenton area, attending Border School and Purple Bank School. She briefly ventured to Hamilton, Ontario for work, returning to Winnipeg and working at Silverwood Dairies.
Nancy met her husband, Nestor at a dance in Gardenton which led to their courtship and marriage on October 10, 1953.
Nancy traveled around to many small towns until they settled in Overstoneville, Manitoba in May 1962 with Nestor employed at CNR. Overstoneville became their home establishing a convenience store, becoming a post mistress and helping to operate a mixed farm. Nancy had a full-time job caring for her husband and two young boys, also becoming a store proprietress and post mistress while milking cows and raising chickens for eggs on the farm.
Nancy found the time to volunteer in the Tolstoi Holy Ghost Orthodox Church, Tolstoi Orthodox Woman’s League, WI, Tolstoi Hall and Community Centre and Overstoneville Independent Cemetery.
Nancy was also very talented with crafts. She enjoyed painting beautifully intricate Ukrainian Easter eggs, paper tole, ceramics, sewing and cooking. She kept her family well fed with her Ukrainian meals and delicious baking. Her green thumb kept the family with an abundance of vegetables and an immaculate yard of beautiful flowers.
Nancy will be remembered for her unconditional love for others, her devotion to her family, friends and community and her traditional values and work ethics. She will be forever missed and deeply loved.
A special thank you to the staff at the Vita Personal Care Home for their exceptional care and compassion.
A private family service and memorial will be held at the Tolstoi Holy Ghost Orthodox Church with interment at the Overstoneville Independent Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Overstoneville Independent Cemetery c/o Mr. Brian Nedohin, 180 Poplar Street, Morden, Manitoba R6M 1H5.
