PHYLLIS THOMPSON

April 13, 1944 - April 20, 2026

Phyllis passed away peacefully at Health Sciences Centre on April 20, 2026.

Phyllis Thompson (nee Mankewich) is predeceased by her parents Olga and Stanley Mankewich, sister Julia and brother-in-law Bert Harder, brother-in-law Jack Thompson, and her in-laws Alice and Jack Thompson. She is survived by husband William (Bill) Thomspon, brother Harold and sister-in-law Margaret Mankewich and their children, brother Eugene Mankewich and sister-in-law Barbara Mankewich and their children, the Thompson clan, and her special friends Linda Larsen, Rhonda Graham, Rhonda Hickes, and Wanda Pucci.

Phyllis was born and raised in Red Rose, Manitoba. She went to school in Sunny Valley and graduated from Fisher Branch High School. She began her employment journey at Investors Syndicate and later had a long, illustrious career at Ford Motor Company.

Bill and Phyllis were married on May 13, 1967. They lived in Winnipeg for nine years, Stony Mountain for two years, and later the farm by Gunton from 1977 until present day.

Phyllis enjoyed curling and golf, and she was a part of the Manitoba Ladies Golf Association. Many evenings were spent watching sports, as well, especially the Winipeg Jets. She made shopping a hobby and the odd trip to a casino to play the penny slots - a way to enjoy time with friends and family.

When the weather was nice, she spent much of her time planting flowers and tending to her garden.

Music was also a large part of Phyllis' life - Bill and Phyllis, along with their many friends, spent many summers at Country Fest. She spent 22 winters in Texas with Bill, enjoying all of their favourite activities in the warm weather and taking day trips into Mexico. She especially loved the music in Mexico, particularly the musicians (and margaritas) at El Disco's. She travelled extensively with Bill, her family, and her friends. She fostered a welcoming, warm community, dinners with family and friends, or all of the above.

Phyllis was great at living in the moment. She loved to host, where she spent time cooking and serving excellent meals - laughter and stories accompanied those dinners. She had an amazing sense of sarcastic humor and wit. She is remembered for kindness and generosity, her smile, and especially for the class and grace that she always carried herself with. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and quiet resilience that will not be forgotten.

Her greatest pride was the relationships she built with her husband, her nieces and nephews, her friendships, and her family. Phyllis was an excellent wife, a loving sister and aunt, and a wonderful friend.

A special thank you to Dr. Bella, the nurses and staff at the Health Sciences Centre.

Later in June there will be a celebration of life.

  • Phyllis was more than a sister-in-law to me and Aunt to Raena. Phyllis was a friend. We will always remember her kindness and the way she made everyone feel at ease. She was a wonderful woman, and her memory will live on in all of us who were fortunate to know her. Our thoughts are with the family. - Posted by: Carrol and Raena Thompson (Sister-in-law law and Aunt) on: May 02, 2026
