LAURA CATHRYN WINTERS

November 27, 1981 - May 10, 2026

It is with great love and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Cathryn Winters on May 10, 2026, at the age of 44.

Laura will be lovingly remembered by her spouse Mike Peyawary; her beloved daughter Madinah; her parents, Robin and Barbara Winters; brother Matthew (Danielle), sister Lisa (Adam), sister Shannon (Nathan); and her nephew Theo. She was predeceased by her great-grandmother Albina Czarnecki; grandparents, Bronie and Victoria Winters; and her grandmother Irene Burns.

Laura was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 27, 1981. Laura grew up in St. Andrews, MB surrounded by friends and family. She was a very active kid who loved riding her bike, playing piano, figure skating, and playing baseball and rugby. Laura was naturally intelligent and had a genuine love of learning; after graduating high school in Selkirk, she attended the University of Winnipeg where she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Conflict Resolution and later on obtained a secondary degree, Bachelor of Human Ecology in Family Social Sciences, from the University of Manitoba.

Laura had a passion for advocacy work and wanted to help people in any way she could. She worked in family and community services as a crisis counsellor.

The greatest pride and joy in Laura’s life was her daughter Madinah who she loved so very much. She fondly remembered the days when Madinah was younger and loved going to the park, going for walks, splash pads, and spending quality time together.

Laura loved her family unconditionally. She was a giver in every sense of the word - generous to a fault, always offering thoughtful gifts and endless encouragement and support. Even in her final days, Laura continued to share her wisdom and thoughtful advice, always putting others before herself.

After a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease (ALS), Laura never lost her bright smile and her generous spirit. She faced her illness with extraordinary courage, grace, and resilience, never complaining despite the challenges it brought. Laura always found joy in the little things and met every obstacle with optimism and determination, inspiring everyone around her with her incredible strength.

To all who knew and loved her, she was the strongest person we knew.

The family is grateful to Laura’s home care workers that not only provided exceptional care, but also companionship and kindness. A special thank you to Maggie for her compassionate care and friendship.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 5819 Henderson Hwy., Narol, MB.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to ALS Society of Manitoba or to a charity of your choice. A photo biography honouring Laura’s life is accessible through the 'Tributes' link below.
