ANDREW EVANS QUARRY

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Andrew Quarry at home at the age of 82.

He will be deeply missed by his children Kate and Bronwen (David) and his five grandchildren Rhiannon, Olivia, Fiona, Nora and Tamsen. He will also be remembered by his former wife Mary Jo and his younger siblings Marshall, Pauline (Goodfellow), and Bob.

Andrew was born in Guelph, Ontario, to Grace and Andrew, and had many fond memories of growing up in the house his parents built on Maple Street. He obtained a BA and then an MA in Political Science from McMaster University. It was at UBC when he was working on his PhD where he met and married Mary Jo. They moved to Winnipeg in 1970 following a job opportunity, eventually settling in Norwood where they raised their girls.

He will be remembered fondly for his love of almost any genre of music, new and fun-looking food and drinks, and a never-ending interest in learning new things.

Andrew was committed to many causes and strongly believed in supporting others, including as a volunteer. Through this he made many connections and friends. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, they may consider a donation to a favourite charity.

A service will be held at Desjardins Funeral Home on May 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a brief reception.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Andrew and I roomed together at McMaster University for two years. At one time, he was a candidate for student union president, and I was his campaign manager. (He didn't win.) It was generally felt at McMaster that Andrew was one of the students most likely to succeed after graduation. After McMaster we lost touch. I went to the University of Toronto and he went to B.C. No internet in those days so we lost touch permanently. But I will remember all those days with Andrew fondly, and I had the utmost respect for him. - Posted by: Leo Foss (Friend) on: Jun 28, 2026
