JERRY ROBERT BROWN
With deep sadness and profound gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Jerry Brown announces his passing on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the age of 79 years. Left to mourn his loss are his wife of 44 years, Marylyn, siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as many friends he considered family.
Jerry lived a life defined by the passions that shaped him. He had a deep commitment to the sport of curling. He ran the ‘Brier Patch’ at both the 1991 and 2003 World Curling Championships in Winnipeg. His commitment resulted in the honour of being placed in the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame as a Builder. He was a lifetime member of his home club - Deer Lodge, a place where he built friendships, celebrated victories, and poured countless hours into a sport he loved. He also had a passion for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and served on the Board of Directors for several years.
Jerry loved music, especially The Beatles, and nothing brought him more joy than dancing with Marylyn -moments that captured the love they shared. His circle of friends was wide and loyal, and the golf trips they took together were legendary for their laughter, camaraderie, and the stories.
Jerry’s favourite place was the home he and Marylyn shared in Florida and before that, the cottage they built together on the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Both places are a source of many memories that will continue to warm the hearts of those who loved him.
Jerry had a deep love for animals, especially the many dogs he and Marylyn adopted over the years. Rocky and Reba will miss him dearly.
His professional life was spent in the steel industry, where he was known for his integrity, work ethic, and the significant contributions he made. Jerry was particularly proud of his years with Brunswick Steel. He was a mentor to many, a thorn to some but was respected by most.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
If so desired donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, an organization near and dear to Jerry’s heart.

So sad to hear this news. I worked with Jerry at Brunswick Steel when he was GM. He saw potential in me when I approached him for a Supervisor role. He helped by sending me to college to get my Industrial Supervisor certificate. Years passed and now I am the Operations Manager here at Brunswick. He was very firm but fair and a true character. My condolences to Jerry's family. - Posted by: Andrew Prior (coworker) on: May 29, 2026

Sorry to have learned of Jerry’s passing. I always admired the obvious loving relationship Jerry and Marylyn had as husband and wife and also as best friends. Jerry was always one of the boys at Deer Lodge Curling Club as well as being a builder in his community of St.James. I always could count on his support as well as offering valid and constructive perspectives. I know Jerry will be missed. Scott Johnston - Posted by: Scott Johnston (Friend) on: May 23, 2026

As long as you weren’t a “sniper” (bad) or a “bozo” (really bad) you were a good friend of Jerry’s. He had many friends. I first met Jerry at Classics Billiards when I was 15 in grade 9. We became good friends from then as was the case with Marylyn and Pat in our adult lives. We shared a love for curling and I followed Jerry “through the chairs” at Deer Lodge. I learned a great deal about the sport and the club under Jerry’s mentorship. It was a no brainer to do likewise in the Brier events that would follow. I cringed every time Jerry reported that “yes, our committee can do that”, meaning me and many others. We had a blast. Together we met hundreds of new friends in the curling world. I often sought Jerry’s thoughts and opinions to help shape my perspective on a variety of topics. As everyone knows, you didn’t have to ask his opinion - you just got it! So many memories. Thank you Jerry; rest in well deserved peace. Bless you Marylyn, you are wonderful lady and a dear friend. Bruce and Pat McBeth - Posted by: Bruce McBeth (Long time friend) on: May 23, 2026

Very sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. Really enjoyed my time curling at DLCC for a number of years with Jerry and the rest of the Browns. Good times and lots of post-game laughs over beverages in the lounge. - Posted by: Russ Duffy (Former curling team member) on: May 18, 2026
