SHIRLEY ANN LEFKO

The family of Shirley Ann Lefko (née Kubic) is saddened to announce her passing on Saturday, 16 of May, 2026.

Shirley was a beloved wife, mom, grandma, and baba to her great-grandchildren, but she was a kid at heart. She could often be found on her hands and knees, playing with barbies, saving a princess from an evil dragon, or racing a toy car across the kitchen floor.

She will forever be remembered for teaching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren how to make perogies, how to play canasta, and how to curse in Ukrainian

Shirley was born in Selkirk, Manitoba, to John and Rose Kubic, on July 28, 1947. She was the youngest of four children, but was not, according to her, spoiled as the youngest child ought to be.

She grew up in Lockport, Manitoba, and could frequently be found at Skinner’s, the Half-Moon, or at A&W, where she eventually worked as a roller-skating car hop.

In 1965, she married the love of her life, Lawrence, surrounded by 650 of their closest friends and family, and they moved to Hamilton, ON, to begin their new married life.

After welcoming their two children, the pair of them spent several years moving between Hamilton, Winnipeg, Regina, and back to Winnipeg, where they eventually settled and bought a new home in 1975.

Shirley spent the next several decades raising her children, working at K-Mart, caring for her grandchildren, and going back to work at the Salvation Army Thrift Store, where she was a store manager for fifteen years.

Upon retirement, Shirley and Larry enjoyed their continued tropical travels. The last decade saw her spend much of her time with family in Calgary, tending to her garden at the cabin in Lac du Bonnet, or caring for her granddogs.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, and her two sisters-in-law, Linda Lefko and Stella Kubic.

She leaves behind to mourn her husband of nearly sixty one years, Larry (or Lorne as she liked to call him), daughter Donna (MJ), son Glen (Kim), grandchildren Kailey (Kere), Ali (Peter), Josh, Zac (Janelle), and Brett, and great-grandchildren Lizzy, Annie, Archer, and Violet, as well as siblings Bob, Ruth (Steve), Ralph (Doreen), brother-in-law Clarence, and an unreasonably extensive extended family.

The family would like to thank the staff on HR/S 3 for all of their care and dedication, especially Nurse Moise, and the team at Kildonan Personal Care home.

We will miss you and can't wait to see you again. We hope that Elvis Presley is just as handsome in person

A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, June 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, Manitoba. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed via the link on her obituary on Gilbart's website.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Never Alone Cancer Foundation.
