Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA CHLEBOVIC
With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Anna Chlebovic, on May 15, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by her devoted family.
Anna is survived by her greatest love, “Jozko,” Jozef, her husband of 72 years, and her daughters, Olivia and Renata. Left to mourn is her last sister, Magdalena Rybarova, in Montreal; grandson Henry (Jess); and granddaughter Adriana (Chris). We cannot forget our beloved dogs, Sophie and Teddy. She leaves a legacy of love.
Anna was predeceased by her parents, Olga (nee Stevikova) and Jozef Rybar; sisters Apolonia, Olga, and Maria; brothers Jozef and Pavol; son-in-law Marek Rajcher; and beloved family dog, BamBam.
Anna was born in Partizanske, Slovakia (Czechoslovakia), on July 26, 1933. When she was 14, her father, whom Anna adored, died. Anna was the middle child and, at age 14, helped take care of the younger children and the household. This is where Anna learned hard work, discipline, and being meticulous; a true pragmatist.
In 1968, after the occupation of Czechoslovakia, Anna and Jozef made the difficult decision to flee communist rule and immigrate to Canada at ages 35 and 39, with two young children.
Anna was a principal and counselor at a vocational school in Slovakia, and coming to Canada at an older age, without speaking English, was challenging and difficult. Anna first worked as a nurse’s aide at Misericordia Hospital, and then at St. Boniface Hospital for years, eventually working at the Post Office, where she retired after 20 years of service.
Anna is defined by her devotion and love to Family, Faith, Friends, Food, and Flowers. Anna’s hard work continued throughout her whole life, busy working a full-time job, as well as being a dedicated wife and mother; she truly dedicated her life to her family. Anna was known for being an amazing cook and baker. Home-cooked meals at the dinner table every day were a time of laughter, love, tears, and deep family connection. She spent her free time tending to her garden and was an amazing seamstress, sewing most of her own clothing, while also expressing her creativity through knitting, crocheting, painting, and canning. Anna's joyful spirit, her generosity, her endless kindness, wisdom, and honesty was evident to all who new her. She taught her children strength, compassion, hard work, honesty, and love, which she demonstrated each and every day.
Anna was a very strong faith-based woman. She was a devout Catholic, going to church every Sunday, reading her Bible, and praying her rosary every day. She always knew the power of faith and prayer would make life better.
Anna was diagnosed with dementia in her late 80s and was able to live out most of her days in the comfort and familiarity of her own home thanks to the dedicated care provided by her loving husband and two daughters, with additional support from Eva and Rosemary from home care. In the final year, as Anna’s dementia progressed and her needs increased, she resided at the Holy Family Home transition area, where the family wishes to acknowledge and sincerely thank all the staff for the care and compassion they provided. We are forever grateful.
Anna was a woman of extraordinary beauty, strength, and grace, she lived a very full life as a force of nature - unyielding, loving, and unforgettable.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to “Tin for the Critter Bin” or any animal shelter of your choice.
