Patricia Jenny Gudmundson died peacefully on May 1, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her family and everyone within the L’Arche Community. Her surviving family are older brother David Gudmundson (wife Susan Cepanec), her twin brother, Daniel (Danny) Gudmundson (wife Catherine Gudmundson), nieces, Bryarre, Geneva and Amy Gudmundson.
Patricia was born to Barney and Jenny Gudmundson on January 30, 1968. She taught all of us how to be patient, caring and kind. Through extensive physical patterning, organized and led by her mother, Jenny, over several years, Patricia learned to walk. As a result, she was able to actively participate in Special Olympics bowling and track and field. She became a very fast runner! She always enjoyed swimming with her family.
We all appreciated and benefited from her infectious laugh and friendship. She stayed with us until joining the L’Arche Community in December of 1995. It was within this wonderful community where Patricia continued to build love and friendship. She made a significant impression on everyone she encountered, and we are all our better selves because of her. She continued her love of swimming and bowling and just being around all her many friends within L’Arche. Patricia enjoyed travelling with her very close friends, Pascal, Eva and Piroska to Ste. Rose du Lac to go swimming and meet Danny and his family. We all have wonderful stories of our interactions with such an incredibly beautiful person.
Eulogy will take place at The Blessed Sacrament, located at 710 Roanoke Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Thursday, June 11, 2026, starting at 10:40 a.m. followed by a Mass. Reception will follow at the All-Saints Church at 1500 Day Street. Family would like to thank Petra, Nataliia, Sasha, Jennifer, Happiness, Esther, Ruta, Olufunke, Kennedy and Halyna for taking care of Patricia and providing endless love and support. A special thank you also to Deborah, Meron, Victoria, Selamawit and Gentile for being with Patricia during her hospital stay. Thank you to Dr. Monica Dowhanik and all the medical staff at the Health Science Centre for all their incredible efforts to help Patricia.
Please direct all donations to the L’Arche Community so they may continue their mission to make known the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities.
