Born: Jun 22, 1928
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICIA ANNE ALMEDA MCLAUGHLIN
Pat passed away peacefully in her sleep at Golden Door personal care home where she had enjoyed two happy years.
Pat was predeceased by her devoted husband J.E. McLaughlin (Bud); her sisters-in law, Muriel McConnell (Hugh) and Bev Butcher (Bert); and her parents, Charlie T and Florence Anne Wilson.
Left with years of memories are her children, Laura Morton (Anne), Jan Sanderson (Grant) and Rob McLaughlin; grandchildren, McKinley (Protiti), Sarah (Ryan) Hayley (Kevin), Keiran (Rhianna), Brodie, Chelsea (Mitchell) and Chester; her great-grandchildren, Alfred, Sophie, Oliver, Samuel, Ruby and Blye and extended family; Charlie, Ashley and Knight.
Pat grew up in tiny Hudson, Ontario where her father managed the Patricia Transportation Co. for which she was named (or so we were told). An only child, she developed a rich imaginative life which served her well.
At age 11, upon her parents' separation, she traveled by train to Winnipeg where she spent the rest of her school years at Rupertsland Girls' School. There with her sense of humour and mischief, she formed friendships that lasted decades. Although Pat never returned to Hudson for more than a short vacation, Northwest Ontario's blue lakes and rocky shores always called her back.
Bud and Pat met in 1950 and wed two years later. Theirs was a deep, abiding love with lots of laughs and firm friendships. They were a couple with an open invitation to drop in for friends, relatives, neighbours and co-workers. Bud's Wheat Board Gang often ended a long work week with a casual gathering at Pat and Bud's which inevitably included a take-out feast and singalong with Terry Martin at the piano.
Volunteer work brought Pat an invaluable reward, her best friend Allison. Allison kept her close after Bud's death in 1994 and Pat returned that affection and protection when Allison was widowed. Every outing, event, and volunteering incident became an episode of the "I Love Lucy" show we couldn't wait to hear about.
Pat's home reflected her creativity and her passion for art, music and dogs. Her talent produced oils and acrylics that now grace the homes of her children and grandchildren.
Never without a dog, Pat moved from rescuing the neglected neighbourhood setter to the basset years and Hamish the stray. The charming Muggins kept her company for almost 20 years to be followed by a series of "Charlies", battery operated but real to her!
Pat was blessed with dedicated home care staff including Helina whose visits were always a highlight. Our sincere thanks also to the staff of Golden Door for their outstanding devotion to Mom and Charlie. It's hard to make friends at 95 years old but she had friends in you.
Please join us for one last glass of (boxed!) wine with Pat and the gang on June 18, 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home where we'll share stories and laughs just as she'd wish.
